ERAU is one of the biggest festivals held in Tenggarong, a capital city of Kutai Kartanegara, East Borneo, which is usually held in June to July every year. ERAU festival is filled with many different type of activities, from traditional arts and sports, local and international performances, bazaars and exhibitions to rituals performed by the Dayak and presided over by the Sultan every night during the festival. The ERAU procession is closed by releasing two dragons (Naga) called "Belibur" to the Mahakam river and by spraying participants and spectators with water.
The Dayaks are the indigenous people inhabiting Borneo Island beside the Kutais and the Banjars. Its culture can be witnessed at most places in Borneo. Traditional Dayak dances in the longhouse must not be missed while visiting Pampang, the Dayak's settlement in Samarinda, East Borneo.
