Bangka Island, Indonesia

Bangka is a small island lying East of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is responsible for production of tin in the world.

Bangka is home to fantastic food, famous throughout Indonesia, lovely, long, clean and tout-free beaches, with crystal clear and surprisingly calm turquoise blue seawater, Pantai (beach) Parai Tenggiri, Pantai (beach) Tanjung Pesona, Pantai (beach) Matras and Pantai (beach) Teluk Uber just to name a few, natural hot spring Pemali, traditional snacks Kempelang and Kerupok and Kurau fishing village.

Where is it?

How to get there?

There are more than 10 domestic flights from Jakarta to Bangka Island daily, which only takes approximately 1 hour. Alternatively, there are ferries from Jakarta port, Tanjung Periok to Bangka Island daily which takes approximately 10 - 12 hours. While in Bangka, travelers can hire a taxi or take bus to different destinations in the island.

  1. Good Day Bapak ST,
I'll be having a trip to Sumatera early next month. To be specific to Pelembang and Pagar Alam. After that going to Surabaya. If you have photos from those places, it would be great if you could share them here.
Bangka Island is a nice place to visit in future, unfortunately not on this trip. I bookmarked in my future calendar already. The word "Island" itself is synonym to sea, sand and sun, as well as the life of the fishing villagers. It is reflected in the photos published for this entry. Apart from these, I'm looking forward to seeing the other side of fishing life. A foodie like me of course to know places to enjoy its local cuisine. As you described, a home to fantastic foods, some recommendation of places or restaurants to have delicious seafood would be a great help to travelers.

    Sincerely,
    Teh Bunga

  2. Good day to you too Teh Bunga. Good to hear that you will be travelling to Indonesia. Certainly, Bangka Island is the closest excellent place to your visiting places. As for Surabaya, if you have time, you must visit Yogyakarta. It is amazing tourist destination.
All the best to you. Hope you will have a great trip to Indonesia.

  3. Thank you Bapak ST. If time permits we will visit Yogyakarta as you suggested. But I'm afraid we might have tight schedule as this is not a vacation. Looking forward to visiting Bali next year. I will virtually visit Bali via your entry and leave a comment before my physical visit :)
