Famous Mosques in Peninsular Malaysia

Malaysia is a country with large-majorities of Muslim population. To cater for the need of place of worship, construction of mosques in Malaysia was way back in 1900, before Malaysia gained independent from British. 

With more than 6,000 mosques, both small and large located in every state and district throughout the country, some of them are famous due to its architecture and or legend and have become an icon of the town. At the same time, they become one of the main tourist attraction for both local and foreign tourists, Muslim and non-Muslim to city. Most mosques welcome any quests with the proper dress code. 

Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque 

Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque or in short Masjid Jamek is one of the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city, the mosque was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback and built in 1909. 

National Mosque of Malaysia

National Mosque of Malaysia or Masjid Negara Malaysia is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city. The original structure was designed by a three-person team, namely Howard Ashley, Hisham Albakri and Baharuddin Kassim. The mosque was built in 1963. 

Ubudiah Mosque  

Ubudiah Mosque or Masjid Ubidiah is located in the Royal Town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Malaysia. The mosque is considered as one of the most beautiful mosques in the country, situated beside the Royal mausoleum in Kuala Kangsar town. The mosque was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback and built in 1913. 

Zahir Mosque   

Zahir Mosque or Masjid Zahir is located in Alor Setar city center, Kedah, Malaysia. The mosque is one of the oldest mosque in Malaysia and was voted as one of the top 10 most beautiful mosques in the world. The mosque was built in 1912. 

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque   

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque or Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz also known as The Blue Mosque is located in Shah Alam city center, Selangor, Malaysia. The mosque is the largest mosque in Malaysia and the second largest in Southeast Asia after Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, Indonesia. The mosque was built in 1982. 

Putra Mosque   

Putra Mosque or Masjid Putra is the principal mosque of Putrajaya, located next to Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister office in the administrative city of Putrajaya Malaysia. The mosque was built in 1997. 

Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque   

Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin or Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin also known as Iron Mosque is the second principal mosque of Putrajaya, located just the opposite of The Palace of Justice in the administrative city of Putrajaya Malaysia. The mosque was built in 2004. 

Crystal Mosque   

Crystal Mosque or Masjid Kristal is situated in the Islamic Heritage Park, on the island of Wan Man, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The mosque was built in 2006. 

Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque   

Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque or Masjid Tengku Tengah Zaharah also known as The Floating Mosque of Malaysia is situated in Kuala Ibai Lagoon, some 4 km from Kuala Terengganu city center. The mosque was built in 1993. 

Melaka Straits Mosque 

Melaka Straits Mosque or Masjid Selat Melaka also known as The Floating Mosque of Melaka is located in a man-made Malacca island, some 4 km from Malacca city. The mosque was built in 2006. 

Kampung Hulu Mosque  

Kampung Hulu Mosque or Masjid Kampung Hulu is located in Kampung Hulu, Malacca city center. Known as the oldest mosque in Malacca and among the oldest in the country. It was built by Chinese immigrant convert in 1728 

Kampung Kling Mosque  

Kampung Kling Mosque or Masjid Kampung Kling is situated in Jalan Tukang Emas, Malacca city center. Known as the oldest mosque in Malacca and among the oldest in the country. It was built by Indian Muslim traders in 1748.

Seremban Jamek Mosque  

Seremban Jamek Mosque or Masjid Jamek Seremban is located in Seremban city center. Known as the oldest mosque in Seremban and among the oldest in the country. It was built in 1924.

Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque  

Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque or Masjid Sultan Ahmad Shah also known as Sultan Ahmad 1 State Mosque is located in Kuantan city center, Pahang, Malaysia. The mosque was built in 1991.

Klang Royal Town Mosque  

Klang Royal Town Mosque or Masjid Bandar Diraja Klang is situated next to Klang River in Klang city center, Selangor, Malaysia. The mosque was built in 2003.

Jagdish Temple @ Udaipur, Rajasthan, India

Jagdish Temple is a Hindu temple located very near to the famous Udaipur Royal Palace. As such makes it a must visit attraction in Udaipur. The feature of Jagdish Temple is amazing fine hand marble and stones carving on a three-storey high building. It is certainly one of the most beautiful Hindu temple in the country.   

Udaipur City

Udaipur also well known as the "City of Lakes" is the fifth biggest city in the state of Rajasthan after the capital city, Jaipur. The name given "City of Lakes" is synonyms to the five interconnected lakes in the city, namely Fateh Sagar lake, Pichola lake, Swaroop Sagar lake Rangsagar and Doodh Talai lake which were part of restoration project under government of India. Udaipur is a well connected city. It can be reached from New Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur by road which is relatively smooth passing through few newly built toll roads. Airport is available served by domestic flights. Rails services is also available from bigger cities to Udaipur. The road journey from the capital city Jaipur takes approximately 7 hours for 400 km.   

Best time to visit Udaipur

The best time to visit Udaipur city is during winter, from November to March with the temperature between 10-20 degree centigrade and a clear blue sky. 

Udaipur is popular tourist destination for both local and foreign tourists for its historical sites, picturesque city view, culture, handicraft and food. 

 

Alchi Monastery @ Kashmir, India

Alchi Monastery is a Buddhist monastery located at Alchi village, Leh district under the state of Jamu and Kashmir, North India. Alchi village is located some 65 km from Leh town, having the altitude of 10,200 feet above sea level. It can be reached in approximately 2 hours by car.  

Alchi Monastery is believed to be the oldest monastery and temple in the state. The complex comprises of temple which has the most unique style of workmanship and the other buildings. 

The monastery complex was built in the 11th century and the amazing wall painting and the huge wooden Buddha statues survived until today.
