Alchi Monastery @ Kashmir, India

Alchi Monastery is a Buddhist monastery located at Alchi village, Leh district under the state of Jamu and Kashmir, North India. Alchi village is located some 65 km from Leh town, having the altitude of 10,200 feet above sea level. It can be reached in approximately 2 hours by car.  

Alchi Monastery is believed to be the oldest monastery and temple in the state. The complex comprises of temple which has the most unique style of workmanship and the other buildings. 

The monastery complex was built in the 11th century and the amazing wall painting and the huge wooden Buddha statues survived until today. 

  

Likir Monastery @ Ladakh, India

Likir Monastery is yet another magnificent establishment, perfectly located in a beautiful little hill in a valley and a village called Likir, near the Indus river.  

The monastery is located at 3,700 m or 12,138 ft above sea level and some 52 km from Leh town, surrounded by snow-capped mountains which is a perfect place to perform any activities. It can be reached in approximately one and half hour from Leh town toward Srinagar. It belongs to Tibetan Buddhism.

Diskit Monastery @ Nubra Valley, Kashmir, India

Diskit Monastery also known as Deskit or Diskit Gompa (monastery) is the oldest and the largest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh, Northern India. It belongs to Tibetan Buddhism.

The monastery is located on the top of the hill overlooking the famous Nubra Valley. It consists of two parts, the monastery and the opposite side lies the 32 meter Maitreya Buddha statue facing the river. 

Diskit Monastery is one of the most beautiful and perfectly located monastery in India.
