East Borneo is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the island of Borneo due to its historical places, which is the oldest in Indonesia Sultanate's history, Kutai Kartanegara, rich of arts, culture and unique nature attractions. Local's lifestyle can easily be seen along Mahakam river, the largest river in East Borneo.
Other attractions include mangrove forest which comes together with its magnificent wildlife along Mahakam river tributaries. It also house to three very large lakes, Lake Jempang, Lake Melintang and Lake Semayang covering more than 30 hectares of area, where fisherman activities and villages are located.

Travelers can either take domestic flights from Jakarta to
Balikpapan, the capital city of East Kalimantan or Borneo which is available
daily or for foreign travelers there are also direct flights from Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia to Balikpapan daily. From Balikpapan it takes approximately 4 hours
drive to Kutai Kartanegara.
