Bridge on the River Kwai is located in Kanchanaburi Province, some 150 km west of Bangkok., Thailand. The bridge also known as Death Railway or Thai-Burma Railway was built during the Second World War.
The name of Death Railway was given due to the number of both civilians and prisoners of war who perished during the construction of this railway was estimated to be more than 12,000 people out of more than 250,000 workers from many nationalities, including American, Australian, British, India, Malayan, Burmese, Singaporean, Korean and Dutch.
The bridge has since become an icon of Kanchanaburi town. It is one of the most visited destination in Kanchanaburi. Just 50 m away from the bridge, a war museum is located where locomotive used during the construction of the bridge is displayed.
