Journey from Srinagar to Leh, Jamu and Kashmir, North India

Visiting Kashmir has been a dream to many foreign visitors even to the local. To experience the "excitement" the journey must be done by road passing by a scenic and picturesque Kashmir Valley and beautiful towns.

The dream journey starts from Srinagar, which is a gate way to foreign visitors, passing by beautiful towns and valley, including Sonamarg, Drass, Kargil, Sham Valley, Lamayuru and Alchi. Along the journey, wonderful and magnificent snow-capped mountainous view, narrow and winding roads coupled with scary Zoji La pass are ready to welcome visitors. To break the long journey up, local tea-shops and small restaurants along the road are always open their doors to visitors. There are many interesting places to visit too. Monasteries, villages and temples just to name a few.

Due to poor, narrow and crowded road condition, the road journey from Srinagar to Leh may take more than 12 hours for a distance of approximately 420 km. Hence, it is advisable to stop and over night at one of the town along the way, where abundant accommodation is available. The popular and famous stop-over town is Kargil due to its location approximately half of the distance.

To avoid disappointment, the journey must be planned properly as the road will be closed during winter from October to April due to very thick snow covers the road.
