Greater Painted-snipe [Pair] @ Sungai Balang, Muar, Malaysia

Greater Painted-snipe (Rostratula benghalensis) is a colorful, attractive and fast action bird among hundred species of birds can be found in Sungai Balang, Muar, Malaysia. The bird is a resident to Sungai Balang. It can be found around the paddy field area and surrounding plantation.

Sungai Balang is another wonderful birding destinations in Johor, Malaysia as it is a residence to many exotic birds and has become migratory birds' destination too. The place has large area of paddy field, mangrove forest, seashore, and streams. Muar is a popular weekend destination to the local for family get away, fishing, kite flying and cycling. Adequate accommodations, restaurants, local food stalls and recreational activities are provided in the area and nearby town, Muar.

Other nearby birding destination to Sungai Balang is Parit Jawa where fisherman village and jetty are located. The area includes nearby mangrove forest and beaches.

Large Woodshrike @ Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia

Large Woodshrike (Tephrodornis virgatus) is yet another very colorful, cute and attractive bird among many different types of birds can be found in Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia. Large Woodshrike is a resident bird to the hill. 

Due to its relatively high altitude and forest reserves, Bukit Antarabangsa is home to many exotic residence and migratory birds. They can be found on the trees at the edges of the forest.

Plaintive Cuckoo [Male] @ Taman TAR, Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia

Plaintive Cuckoo (Cacomantis merulinus) [Male] is a very colorful, attractive and active resident bird can be found in Taman Tun Abdul Razak aka. Taman TAR Ampang. It can be found in the vegetation along the road at the hill.

Taman Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) is a hill located in town of Ampang, Selangor. The hill can be reached in less than half hour drive from Kuala Lumpur City Center. 

The hill is an important place for family and children activities, walking, jogging and cycling. At the same time, it attracts wildlife and it has become a bird sanctuary for both endemic and migratory birds. 

Taman TAR has a large bird population and varieties with a recorded more than 30 species of birds. It certainly entices many birders to be there. The main target birds include different types of coucals, woodpeckers, falconet, bee-eaters, kingfishers, shrikes, weavers, flycatchers, bulbuls, pigeons just to name a few.

Yellow-eared Spiderhunter @ Sungai Congkak, Selangor, Malaysia

Yellow-eared Spiderhunter (Arachnothera chrysogenys) is a very colorful, super fast moving and active bird among hundred species of birds can be found in Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest, Selangor, Malaysia. The bird can be found at the forest edges in the recreational forest.  

Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest is yet another wonderful birding destinations in Selangor, Malaysia as it is a residence to many exotic birds. The recreational forest covers a large area of tropical rain forest, waterfalls, trekking and streams. Whereas accommodations, camp sites, food and recreational activities are provided along the stream, right outside the entrance to the forest. It can be reached in approximately one hour from Kuala Lumpur by car. Banded Kingfisher [Male] @ Sungai Long Hill, Selangor, Malaysia

Banded Kingfisher (Lacedo pulchella) [Male] is a cute, fast and attractive bird among many different types of birds can be found in Sungai Long Hill, Selangor, Malaysia. Banded Kingfisher is a resident bird to Sungai Long Hill. 

Sungai Long is a township near Kajang town, in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It can be reached in approximately one hour from Kuala Lumpur city center by car. The hill has become an attraction to the local people around the area as it provides sporting and recreational venues to them, including trekking, hiking, walking and cycling. The area is mostly covered by secondary forest and primary rainforest.
