Blyth's Frogmouth [Pair] @ Benta, Pahang, Malaysia

Blyth's Frogmouth (Batrachostomus affinis) [Pair] is a cute, fast and attractive bird among many different types of birds can be found in Benta, Pahang, Malaysia. Blyth's Frogmouth is a resident bird to Benta. 

Male Blyth's Frogmouth is featured by brown upperparts and spotted black and white, brownish on breast and whitish belly. The female counterpart is featured by more rufous, distinctive white spots on scapulars and breast. The photos were taken using Nikon D850 paired with Nikkor 500 PF lens, ISO 2000, F 6.3, EV -0.3.  

Benta is a small township near Raub town, in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. It can be reached in approximately two hours from Kuala Lumpur city center by car. Additional half hour is needed to reach the birding location by four-wheel vehicle through winding off-road. The area is mostly covered by durian estate, rubber and palm oil plantation. For birding purpose in the area, better preparation is needed in term of food and drink, mosquito protection and shoes. 

The main target birds in Benta include different types Kingfishers, Flogmouth, Malkohas, Ioras, Sunbirds, Eagles, Flowerpeckers, Orioles, Woodpeckers, Barbets, Flycatcher and Bulbuls just to name a few.

Ashy Minivet @ Taman TAR, Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia

Ashy Minivet (Pericrocotus divaricatus) is a very fast, attractive and active resident bird can be found in Taman Tun Abdul Razak aka. Taman TAR Ampang. It can be found in the vegetation along the road at the hill.

Taman Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) is a hill located in town of Ampang, Selangor. The hill can be reached in less than half hour drive from Kuala Lumpur City Center. 

The hill is an important place for family and children activities, walking, jogging and cycling. At the same time, it attracts wildlife and it has become a bird sanctuary for both endemic and migratory birds.

Buff-rumped Woodpecker [Male] @ Rainforest Discovery Center, Sepilok, Sandakan, Sabah, East Malaysia

Buff-rumped Woodpecker (Meiglyptes tristis) [Male] is fast, attractive and very active resident bird can be found in Rainforest Discovery Center, Sepilok, Sandakan, Sabah, East Malaysia. They can be found on the mature tree along the road around the center.

Rainforest Discovery Center or in short RDC is the most famous and accessible natural rainforest in Sabah. It overs a total area of 4,300 hectar of Sepilok-Kabili Forest Reserve. The center is located just 23 km from Sandakan town, Sabah, Malaysia. It can be reached in approximately just half hour drive from Sandakan town. The center offers many attractions to visitors, including jungle trekking, night walk, canopy walk, plants discovery garden and exhibition hall. Rainforest Discovery Center opens from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. daily. The entrance fee is RM7.00 for Malaysian and RM15.00 for foreigner respectively. For night walk with guide will be charged seperately. Detail information can be obtained at the ticketing counter located at the entance of the center. Other nearby attractions to Rainforest Discovery Center include Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center and Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary.

Although Sepilok and Sandakan are relatively small towns, to cater for both local and foreign tourists visiting those attractions, there are abundant hotels, resorts, villas and guesthouses of different standards and prices. Not forgetting restaurants, cafe, convenience shops of all kinds and standards.

The main target birds include different types of pittas, Bornean Bristlehead, eagles, doves, hornbills, bee-eaters, kingfishers, shrikes, weavers, flycatchers, bulbuls, pigeons just to name a few. It has become a destination for migratory birds too.

White-throated Kingfisher @ Serdang Hill, Selangor, Malaysia

White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) is a colorful, fast and attractive bird among many different types of birds can be found in Serdang Hill, Selangor, Malaysia. Black and Red Broadbill is a resident bird to Serdang Hill.

Other nearby birding destination to Serdang Hill is Sungai Long hill. Sungai Long is a township near Kajang town, in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It can be reached in approximately one hour from Kuala Lumpur city center by car. The hill has become an attraction to the local people around the area as it provides sporting and recreational venues to them, including trekking, hiking, walking and cycling. The area is mostly covered by secondary forest and primary rainforest. Hence, it attracts both endemic and migratory birds to this area. The birds can be found along the forest edges. 

The main target birds in Serdang Hill and Sungai Long hill include different types Kingfishers, Owls, Malkohas, Ioras, Sunbirds, Eagles, Flowerpeckers, Orioles, Woodpeckers, Barbet Flycatchers,ogos and Bulbuls just to name a few.
