Grey-breasted Spiderhunter @ Bukit Larut, Taiping, Perak, Malaysia

Grey-breasted Spiderhunter (Arachnothera modesta) is a colorful, attractive and very active resident bird can be found in Bukit Larut, Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. They can be found on the forest edges and mature trees along the road of Bukit Larut.

Taiping Lake Gardens or Taman Tasik Taiping in Malay is a park located in the center of Taiping city. It is a public park that serves as green lung for city folks. It is located at Jalan Pekeliling, Taiping, Malaysia. It can be reached in approximately two and half hours drive from Kuala Lumpur City Center. Other modes of transportation are also available, including train and buses. Alternatively, it can be reached in just one hour from Penang international airport. 

Although Taiping is relatively small town, to cater for both local and foreign tourists visiting Lake Gardens and Maxwell Hill, there are abundant hotels, resorts, villas and guesthouses of different standards and prices. Not forgetting restaurants, cafe, convenience shops of all kinds and standards.  

Covering an area of 64 hectares, the park is the main attraction to Taiping city and an important place for family get way, children activities, gathering, jogging and even wedding. At the same time, it attracts wildlife and it has become a bird sanctuary. The entrance fee is free of charge. The Park opens 24 hours daily. Other attractions in the park which requires entrance's fee include Taiping Zoo and water activities. 

Other neighboring areas to Taiping Lake Gardens for the birding destinations include Maxwell Hill or Bukit Larut in Malay, Kemunting and Taman Botani Perak Taiping.    

Taiping Lake Gardens has a large bird population and varieties with a recorded more than 70 species of birds. It certainly entices many birders to be there. The main target birds include different types of pittas, eagles, doves, hornbills, bee-eaters, kingfishers, shrikes, weavers, flycatchers, bulbuls, pigeons just to name a few. It has become a destination for migratory birds too.

Red-bearded Bee-eater @ Inobong Substation, Panampang, Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia

Red-bearded Bee-eater (Nyctyornis amictus) is a colorful, active and attractive bird can be found in Inobong Substation, Penampang, Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia.

The photos were taken using Nikon D500 paired with Nikkor 500 PF lens, ISO 1600, F 5.6, EV -0.7. 

Inobong Substation is part of Crocker Range National Park which is the largest national park in Sabah. The place needs no introduction to the world, especially well-known to the nature lovers, hikers and jungle trekkers. Located in the district of Penampang, South-east of Sabah, island of Borneo, East Malaysia, some 18 km from the capital city, Kota Kinabalu. It can be reached in approximately 30 minutes by car from Kota Kinabalu International Airport through winding mountainous road. Due to it high elevation, weather in the Substation is very unpredictable. 

The Substation has the most diversified treasures, both flora and fauna, including more than 200 species of bird and 100 species of mammal. Although the place is small, to cater for both local and foreign tourists, there are some basic rest-house, chalets and camping ground for rent. 

For bird lovers, Inobong Substation certainly is the place to test your passion and perseverance in getting the best from the rain forest of Borneo. Snowy-browed Flycatcher Juvenile [Male] @ Gunung Alab Substation, Tambunan, Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia

Snowy-browed Flycatcher (Ficedula hyperythra) [Juvenile] [Male] is a cute, active and attractive bird can be found in Gunung Alab Substation, Tambunan, Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia.

In terms of color and other features there is no significant differences between Snowy-browed Flycatcher found in East and West Malaysia. However, it is observed that the bird found in Borneo is larger in terms of size as compared to the same bird found in West Malaysia. The photos were taken using Nikon D500 paired with Nikkor 500 PF lens, ISO 1000, F 5.6, EV -0.7.

Bornean Partridge aka. Red-breasted Partridge (Arborophila hyperythra) is a large, colorful and attractive bird can be found in Gunung Alab Substation, Tambunan, Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia.
